In today’s episode of the Idea to Value podcast, we speak with microeconomist Dr Victoria Prowse, who is Associate Professor of Economics at Purdue University.
Along with her colleague David Gill, Dr Prowse has recently released some very interesting longitudinal research (The Creativity Premium) following individuals throughout their lives, and seeing what impact a high creativity score as a child had on their adult life.
Topics covered in this episode:
- 00:02:30 – The unique dataset of longitudinal research following people from 1958
- 00:04:15 – How creativity was assessed at age 7 with all these children
- 00:05:45 – What the research tells us about highly creative children and how they develop later at school and in the workplace. Creativity seems to be correlated with academic achievement, being employed and higher wages later in life
- 00:08:15 – Creativity seems to be correlated with gaining new experiences and having practical skills
- 00:14:45 – My issues with the quality of the dataset and ranking student’s creativity
- 00:17:45 – What we can learn: creativity pays
